Opening of the Baydibek bi monument was in Shymkent city. It was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the South Kazakhstan region. Before opening, the monument becomes popular in Kazakhstan as the highest monument in the country. In addition, it claims to be one of the highest buildings in the world.

The northern part of Shymkent (220 meters) was chosen for installation the monument in one of the highest points. Specially created four-meter embankment and 9-meter pedestal were added to it. The height of the figure is 10 meters, taking into account the height of the mound, pedestal and the monument rises to 23 meters.

Figure with 9 tons weights was made of wrought copper, in record time - 20 days. 40 qualified welders worked over it. They were local masters and specially invited workers from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The author of the monument was a famous sculptor Nasir Rustem, and the initiators of the project was Bahytzhan Ashirbayev, the chief architect of the South Kazakhstan region. Here their sayings about the idea of creation of the monument:

- The idea of erecting Baydibek bi monument aroused about six years ago. There were introduced many various projects, including Baydibek bi on horse. There was held a competition. However, the head of the region Askar Myrzahmetov proposed to make a monument in another style, not canons. We have studied the statue in Rio de Janeiro, Volgograd, and Statue of Liberty, and decided that we must have something like this.

The remarkable fact, funds for the creation and installation of the monument was 25 million tenge, which was defined by local businessmen of South Kazakhstan, on the social responsible business.

The sculpture presents a figure of the legendary Kazakh bi, who is standing on a high pedestal and extends hands over the city. Authors tried to convey the man’s character. According to sources, Baydibek bi was a very wise and fair man.

Baydibek Karashauly (1356-1419) - the famous Kazakh bi and warrior, the legendary ancestor of the Elder Juz (Kazakh tribes) - alban, suan, dulat, sary uysun, shapyrashty, ysty, oshakty. He was a friend and associate of Tamerlane (Timur). He became famous for his fairness among people, accuracy of words, humanity and wisdom.

In the coming years, a new monument may become a symbol and unique brand of Shymkent.

According to authors’ plan, sculpture of Baydibek bi will be the main for all ethno-historical museums, which will be taken from behind monument in 42 hectares area. According to developers’ idea, ethnohistorical museum will be placed under open-air in this territory. Here are places for the wealthiest funds of historical and ethnographical museums, which are hidden from visitors due to lack of space.

Baydibek bi Monument is a major tourist attraction. Local people love it. Some of them see a symbol of unity of the Kazakh people, others - an important educational moment for growing generations.
