Lisakovsk is a small provincial town in Kostanai region of Kazakhstan. Lisakovskiy museum of history and culture of the Upper Tobol region occupies a special place among the attractions of the city. The museum is young and located in modest area in spite of a rich collection of exhibits, which tell the historical development of the region in detail.

Lisakovskiy museum was founded in 1991, however, the date of birth of the museum can be called in 1980.

The historical and production Lisakovsk Museum of mining and processing plant was opened on 13 November 1980. It served as the basis for the creation of museum of history and culture of the Upper Tobol region. Author and director of the factory museum was S.M.Lyapustina. Museum tells the history of the discovery of iron ore deposits, the development of Lisakovsk mining and processing plant, and foremost innovators of production. Ceremonial wires to the army traditionally performed and meetings with students of the Great Patriotic War in the halls of the museum.

The mining and processing plant was not interested in further content of the museum on December 1991. Fortunately, the collection was preserved. The Board Lisakovsk City Council obtained permission to open a branch of historical museum of Kostanai region in Lisakovsk. Funds were the first collection of the new museum, which transferred from the historical and industrial museum (objects and documents on the history of LGOK and few historical materials of the city).

However, the idea of creating the Lisakovsk museum was cared about by citizens. There were conducted archaeological excavations for seven years in the city. Objects of the Bronze Age were found here, which belong to the city according to the opinion of local elders and historians.

The transmission of archaeological collection from the Bronze Age settlements and necropolis Lisakovskiy had began to Lisakovskiy museum of history and culture of the Upper Tobol region since 1992.

The uniqueness of this collection is the volumetric representation of the world cultures object of Andronov cultural-historical community in XY-XIII centuries BC. It is possible to see things that reflect the life of the system to ensure the people of the Bronze Age: pottery, tools made from bronze, bone and stone; jewelry made of gold and bronze.

Currently, the funds of Lisakovsk museum store over 12 thousand exhibits. New exhibitions as "Ancient History of the Steppes", "World Cultures steppes of Eurasia", "Steppe pantry", "History of the Lisakovsk" were opened in 1993.

The ethnographic collection, which is collected through the efforts of the staff of the museum, was a natural extension of the archaeological collection. Ethnographic collection of exhibits reflects the richness of culture and population of Northern Kazakhstan. The composition reflects the culture of the Kazakh, Russian, and Ukrainian, German and Tatar ethnic groups, living in Lisakovsk.

The museum is actively working to replenish their funds. Today, the art collection is formed, which consists of works by artists of Lisakovsk, Kostanay, Karaganda, Chelyabinsk.

In 2000, the museum moved to a new, more spacious and adapted premises. A new exposition was opened in August 2001. The staff of the museum tried to keep the principles and themes of previous exposure in the new halls.
