Kyzylorda regional Music and Drama Theatre named after N.Bekezhanov has more than fifty-years history. The theater was opened in 1955 in Taldykorgan on the basis of collective and state amateur Enbekshi-Kazakh and Karatal regional theatres. Creative activity of the theatre began after powerful and bold debut. The tragedy ''Akan Seri - Aktokty" by G.Musrepov was staged for opening. The premiere of the play was on 25 November 1955 year. After five years of success, the theater moved to Kyzylorda on March 1960.
The creative achievements of the theatre were appreciated and it was named after N.Bekezhanov in 1967. The theatre got the current name Music and Drama Theatre named after N.Bekezhanov in 1997.
The main founders of the Kyzylorda regional Kazakh Music and Drama Theatre were luminaries of the scenes such as B.Balgynbaev, Sh.Mardenov, K.Saurykov, National Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sh.Bakirova, Honored Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Kopbaeva, K.Kopbaev, S. Rakyshev,T.Aynakulov, R.Tashibaeva, A.Manasbaeva, National Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zh.Bagisova, A.Kanetov and S.Shotykov.
Honoured Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan O. Abdymomynov, Sh.Abdibaev, B.Alpysbaev, A.Arysbaeva, A.Seylhanov and others joined to troupe later, when the theatre began work in Kyzylorda.
Kyzylorda theatre creatively associated with the names of well known Kazakh artists and actors at different times. The director of the theatre were masters such as Honored Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zh.Abiltaev (1955-1962), Myung Dong Uk (1962-1963), National Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan R.S.Andriasyan (1963-1964), M.Bayserkenov (1964-1970), Tulesh Tungyshbaev (1970-1972), Tastan Utebaev (1972-1974), Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Hussain Takin (1974 - 1988), National Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yergali Urazimbetov (1988-2001).
All these people certainly left notable traces in the creative finding of the theatre and deserved fame and love of the audience.
After many years of work, staff of the theatre won the love of thousand audiences and achieved outstanding success.
First time the theatre won the title of winner of the Lenin Komsomol of Kazakhstan for the play "Optimistic Tragedy" by V. Vishnevsky in 1968. Theatre was the winner of the German, Hungarian drama in the Soviet Union and laureate in the drama of the USSR.
In 2000, the theater won the banner Trade Unions and the USSR Ministry of Culture twice. The main theatre artist S.Pirmahanov was awarded the VIII National Theatre Festival and won the nomination "Best Artist of the Year", and Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan B.Alpysbaev won the nomination "Best Performer cameo" in Pavlodar.
In 2003, the theatre won second place for the staging of the play "When was Issatay alive" by T. Alipbaya at the XI Republican theatre festival, which was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Mahambet Utemisuly in Uralsk.
In 2004, the theater was awarded second place for the performance "Bucha" (Alasapyran) by Zh.Aymauytov and B.Mailin at the XII Republican theatre festival dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Kapan Badyrova in Kustanay.
In 2005, the theater was honored to represent the Republic of Kazakhstan at the theater festival of Turkic people "Nowruz", which was dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the capital city of Tatarstan (Kazan).
Today new group of talented actors successfully work in the troupe. They are: Honored actor of the Republic of Kazakhstan U.Begimova, The cultural actors O.Nurmahanov, K.Abzhanova, O.Nasimhanov, B.Botbaev, Z.Tulepova, winners of the Youth Union of the Republic of Kazakhstan B.Temirbekov, K.Aytzhanova, artists A.Artykbaeva, A.Baydalieva, M.Pushpakova, U.Baymahanov, N.Shynaliev and others.
The satirical theatre "Syr azili" and puppet group "Grandchildren of Nartay" are constantly acting in the Kyzylorda regional Kazakh Music and Drama Theatre. The repertoire of the theatre has more than 20 performances. Audiences will welcome such performances as tragicomedy "The confused Sultan" by Egyptian playwright T. Ali-Hakim, "Riot daughter-in-law" by S. Ahmad, "Munlyk-Zarlyk" by D. Isabekov, "Vampire - groom" by S. Zhumat, "Man, who does not speak the truth " by S.Balgabaev, romance "Heavy destiny" by L.Egemberdieva.
