There are a huge number of monuments and historical places in Kazakhstan. Most of them are well-known in the world, and they are regularly visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists from different corners of the planet. One of these places is the cemetery "Issyk", which has over 80 Saka burial mounds.
Issyk burial mound is considered as one of the largest archaeological monuments of the Scythian-Saka period, and one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the XX century. The monument is dated to the IV BC.
Saka mound is known over the world. It was excavated on the outskirts of Esik, Almaty region. In 1969, the Kazakh archeologists, who were led by K.A. Akishev, begun excavating a huge mound, located 50 kilometers east from Alma-Ata. There were, in the grave that lined with spruce logs, remains of the clothing Saka warrior on the wooden floor, who was entirely covered with gold plates (Golden Warrior). His head was crowned with a high pointed hat that decorated with images of winged horses, symbolizing the god of the sun. Long sword and short dagger were his arms.
Together with the soldier in the grave were clay vessels from mare's milk, wooden trays with chunks of meat, precious vessels of silver and bronze. Young man, who was buried in the mound, was a member of the Saka - tigrahaud rulers. According to Kazakh archeologists, he was the representative of the ruling dynasty of the Empire of Great Kushans. According to anthropologists, buried young man was 17-18 years. He was dressed in a coat that richly decorated with gold plaques, and belt, which richly embroidered with gold ceremonial clothing. Total headdress had about 150 ornaments. Most of them had stamped images of snow leopards, tau-teke (mountain goat), argali, horses and birds. Outerwear of the warrior consisted of caftan and pants. Short leather caftan was red-colored and entirely sheathed in gold plaques, and the board, bottom - large square with the image of tiger's head. Total coat was adorned with about four thousand gold objects.
In the burial chamber, carefully felled trunks from Tien Shan spruce, archaeologists found more than four thousand gold jewelries: jewelry items of clothing, headgear and footwear, rings, statues and plaques. There were a vessel of wood, clay, bronze and silver on the floor. The location of items that adorned the front armor of the buried warrior, remains of the iron sword and dagger allowed researchers to reconstruct the result of hard work - look Saka warrior.
Found warrior in the mound is known as a "Golden Man" to the world. He became a symbol of sovereign Kazakhstan, personification connects times, and unity of the land on which lived the ancestors of Kazakhs - Sakas, Huns, Uisuns, Kipchaks.
Copies of the "Golden Warrior" are exhibited in the museums of Kazakhstan.
The mound, in which was found the legendary warrior, is on the southern of a large burial ground, consisting of more than 40 burial mounds.
Whole territory is the main protection of objects, created in 2010 - "Issyk" Reserve-Museum. The activities of the museum aims to preserve and promote the historical and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan.
The exposition of the museum consists of two spacious rooms. The main object of the first hall, of course, is a replica of the Golden Man, which was placed under a special glass bulb. By going around the circle, visitors can be acquainted with the smallest details of the Saka warrior armor. Also, in this room are copies of other gold products of Saka period, remains of ancient pottery and weapons, elements of horse armor - all these findings were discovered during research of Issyk.
The exposition of the second hall is dedicated to activities of the Kazakh archeologists. Here are presented mock of mound, also many photographs and personal belongings of the scientists, who participated in the excavations of burial mounds.
Research and archaeological excavations are conducted on the territory of Issyk burial mound every year, perhaps we are still waiting for new amazing discoveries.
"Issyk" State Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museum has the potential to become as a great educational center, where can be provided an international and national scientific seminars and forums.
